Sora no Otoshimono Review

04/13/2012

Okay, so I just recently finished the series Sora no Otoshimono (English title: Heaven’s Lost Property) and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with it.  At first, I wasn’t too sure about the show. It had a lot of things that I like in an anime so I decided to give it a shot.  If you haven’t seen the show, there are spoilers moving forward, so reader beware!

When I first started the show, it started out good.  I thought that it had an interesting storyline (an angeloid that falls from the sky mysteriously) that kept me wanting to know more. But then it started to get a little slow.  The plot took a little long to develop with little pieces in the story advancing little by little in each episode. The story really picks up when Ikaros and Nymph have their battle and Ikaros is “unlocked”.

Ikaros in her Uranus Queen mode

A couple of the things that I scratched my head at was really about the main protagonist Tomoki. The guy is a huge perv and you get that from the very beginning.  But why does he treat Ikaros like shit sometimes? You never really see him give her real affection even though she is looking for it so desperately.  There were so many times in the show that I wanted to scream “Hug her dammit!” She really needed some hugs in the show. Maybe it’s just a reflection of a different culture? I don’t know. The other thing is with Tomoki being such a perv and trying to peep on sooo many girls, why doesn’t he just look up porn? I mean c’mon. PLUS you have a really attractive angeloid that will do anything you command her to do. I think these ideas probably have been explored already in doujinshi.

All in all, I really enjoyed this series once the story picked up.  The characters are great (I like Sugata and his mature attitude) and the fighting scenes are good.  Plus, the history buff that I am, I liked how they threw in the connection between searching for the new world and the historical search for the new world during the age of exploration.  I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see the second season at first,  Sora no Otoshimono: Forte, but I am definitely looking forward to it now!

Cliffhanger, a third angeloid appears!!
